The distribution of the populations is variable. From any of the Spratlys one can see, on the interminable horizon, the upper and lower registers of Chinese hegemony. ![]() Among these are the Spratly Islands, claimed by no less than seven countries: China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Taiwan. We wanted to create a highly public face-starting from the exterior plaza and atrium stair to terraced multipurpose rooms at the top-that provides an openness to engage the Bowery and the city beyond. The South Pacific Ocean (which some call simply “the Ocean”) is composed by an indefinite and perhaps infinite number of geometric configurations with vast planes of salt water in between, surrounding very low carpets of sand. “The SANAA building is introverted,” says Shigematsu. The facade incorporates a laminated glass with metal mesh to provide a unified exterior alongside the SANAA building, with a material that recalls and complements the SANAA facade, but which allows for a higher degree of transparency. The move makes the top half of SANAA’s building visible from the street while drawing daylight into production zones at the top of the new building, which extends deeper into the block, allowing OMA to take advantage of the horizontal plane. At grade, the pleat in the facade extends the activity of the street to a new museum entrance plaza. As it rises midway up its famous neighbor, the building angles back sharply, keeping with the low-rise context of the surrounding warehouses and tenements, but belying its 126 feet, which is slightly shorter than SANAA’s 154 feet. An atrium stair visible to passers-by wraps a diagonal fold on the street-facing facade of the new seven-story building, making circulation-which is supplemented by a core of elevators at the rear-a main aspect of the scheme that also stitches the gallery floorplates of the two structures together. Achieving a sort of compromise with a simple but dynamic origami-like form, it takes cues from its predecessor while addressing its deficiencies. OMA’s design, led by partner and director of the New York office Shohei Shigematsu, neither competes with, nor defers to the SANAA building. According to the New Museum, “following extensive research and study of many options, including renovating the existing building, the museum concluded that new, ground up construction would be the most efficient way, both spatially and financially, to fulfill its needs and civic purpose.” Or maybe it just took some persuading by OMA. The winning design by OMA, announced in October 2017 and revealed today, does not. For a highly guarded competition for the addition, which is rumored to have strangely included SANAA themselves, a number of the short-listed firms are said to have maintained the existing building at 231 Bowery. Would it compete with SANAA’s heap, or would it bow down in deference to it? The institution had acquired a 50,000-square-foot building at 231 Bowery just next door to its current museum about the same time that building was completed, using it to capacity for a range of activities including additional gallery space, the museum’s cultural incubator NEW INC, office space, studio space for artists, archives, and back-of-house staging, prep, and storage. If circulation was a major concern for an addition to the SANAA museum-the Pritzker Prize–winning Japanese firm's first free-standing structure in the U.S.-the form that new building would take was another. But movement up the various levels of galleries is not always so easy. Millions of visitors have come through its doors-annual attendance jumped from 60,000 to 400,000 with the SANAA building. The precariously stacked boxes of the museum, veiled in a mysterious metal skin, were an instant attraction. ![]() When it opened in 2007, the vertical museum was taller by far than most everything else on that stretch of the Bowery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side-Norman Foster’s imposing Sperone Westwater Gallery (2010) a few doors down, and Herzog & de Meuron’s 28-story Public Hotel (2017) just behind it had not yet been built. Now twelve years old, SANAA’s New Museum building is still an enigmatic structure. ![]()

After apartheid, high levels of often criminal interpersonal violence continued, fuelled by rapid urbanization and ongoing socioeconomic disparities, that resulted in a high level of trauma exposure, over 80% in some studies. This transition was achieved by a protracted liberation struggle, characterized by political violence and state-sponsored oppression. South Africa is a developing country with a history characterised by past constitutional racial segregation and exploitation in the form of apartheid that gave way to a non-racial democracy only in 1994. The dominant role of witnessing in contributing to PTSD may reflect the public settings of trauma exposure in South Africa and highlight the importance of political and social context in shaping the epidemiology of PTSD. ![]() The occurrence of trauma and PTSD in South Africa is not distributed according to the socio-demographic factors or trauma types observed in other countries. Socio-demographic factors such as sex, age and education were largely unrelated to PTSD risk. ![]() PTSD conditional risk after trauma exposure and probability of chronicity after PTSD onset were both highest for witnessing trauma. Lifetime and 12-month prevalence rates of PTSD were 2.3% and 0.7% respectively, while the conditional prevalence of PTSD after trauma exposure was 3.5%. The most common traumatic events were the unexpected death of a loved one and witnessing trauma occurring to others. The South African Stress and Health Study is a nationally representative survey of South African adults using the WHO’s Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) to assess exposure to trauma and presence of DSM-IV mental disorders. The aim of this study was to document the epidemiology of trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the South African general population. South Africa’s unique history, characterised by apartheid, a form of constitutional racial segregation and exploitation, and a long period of political violence and state-sponsored oppression ending only in 1994, suggests a high level of trauma exposure in the general population. ![]() 4/22/2024 0 Comments Scaffolding rental price per day![]() The rental price varies from region to region, from city to city, and obviously from one provider to another. Basically, extra 6 levels of AW increase your seed production by about the same as 6 tiles of average seed producer, or probably closer to 4 tiles for a good producer (e.g. It's not great when you're sitting on a big reserve (high decay) - but then again, why would you care all that much? You have a big reserveĪnd extra seed generation for individual AWs is a red herring IMO. High production / high decay is exactly the opposite - it helps a lot when you're at a low point (high production, decay is irrelevant). Low production / low decay (maze) is great when you're sitting on a big reserve (low decay) - but this is usually exactly the time when you don't care that much (I mean, you have a big reserve ), and it is pretty bad when you're running on fumes. But basically, I see Maze effect misaligned with what you probably want. OK, so it actually also produces some mana straight up, so the amounts above will be reduced somewhat. I just don't see any extra value in carrying large mana amounts for long periods of time - and nothing I can think of requires or even benefits from carrying that much mana. Not the worst problem to have But from that perspective, if you really want to free up some space you can simply reduce mana production that you already have. If you have that much as part of the regular chapter gameplay, you're clearly overproducing mana as nothing out there really requires to carry that much. In your example, in order to save 41K of mana from decay, you need to be sitting on 1.6mm mana or more if your Maze is L6. The closest that we've seen to that setup is 1.5mm of mana for the last research in chapter 15, but at that stage of the game this is not a huge number and can be handled without decay reduction.Īlso, the Abbey completely bypasses any of the decay mechanics if you hoard enough enchantments to handle these peak requirements.Ĭlick to expand.I still don't quite see the value. multiple days if not weeks worth of production). Sort of like when you're already expected to have massive generation capacity (so not easy to expand by a lot), and then you need to deliver a very high amount of mana relative to that (i.e. While it might be possible to think of mechanics where decay will be more important than generation, it would be rather artificial and we haven't seen that yet. While we may see higher mana requirements in the later chapters, these are better served with higher generation capacity, not better conservation. KPs are replenishable, but space is a pretty hard constraint.Īnd in the end game there is just not much need for mana - and even less so for lower decay. Maze just doesn't really give much in return, so it may indeed make sense to bite the bullet and get rid of it now. If you ditch event mana buildings you reduce your mana generation capacity as they would generally be higher efficiency. And by no return you mean invested KPs are wasted - which is true - but you can certainly rebuild it later if you so desire. Maze is not a good mana producer either.Ĭlick to expand.Given that teleport spells are not easy to acquire, and most good mana generators are fairly small, this sounds rather wasteful. event buildings) rather than trying to decrease decay in the massive footprint of the maze. It doesn't sound like that's your situation, and even if it was, the better option would be to ramp up mana generation (e.g. The only exception would be if your mana production is unusually low, and you need to wait a long time to accumulate required mana amounts (losing on decay). The same applies in the end game - lower decay allows you to sit on larger mana amounts, but it doesn't really matter as you can't use a lot of it anyway (except if new chapter needs large mana amounts upfront). But if you're moving through the chapters then your mana reserves would generally be low (so decay is not a big issue), and if you're stuck on something else and you're suddenly stockpiling mana it doesn't matter that your decay is higher, as you can't use your stash anyway. As it was already pointed above, it reduces mana decay. I wouldn't have built it in the first place. Click to expand.Yeah, it's too bad that you already invested KPs in there, so now you need to assess what are you going to replace it with, if you're to dismantle it. ![]() 4/22/2024 0 Comments Artistic licence law![]() ![]() There are also special exceptions for libraries, educational institutions and government. ![]() There are further exceptions for artistic works including incidental filming of artistic works and certain uses of sculptures and other artistic works located permanently in public.
